💡 Visitor Tips

Best Time to Visit

Jamaa el-Fna is lively throughout the day, but the true magic happens in the evening when the square comes alive with food stalls, entertainers, and musicians. Visiting around sunset allows you to witness the transformation from day to night and enjoy cooler temperatures.

What to Bring

Comfortable walking shoes, a reusable water bottle, and a camera are essentials. It’s also useful to carry some small change for tipping performers and vendors.

🎯 Stay Smart Here

Henna Scams

Politely refuse if you don't want a henna tattoo. Always agree on a price before they start, or otherwise you will regret paying an outrageous price.

Animal Photos

Most animals, like monkeys and snakes, are not treated well. It's best to avoid taking pictures with them, as doing so only encourages their mistreatment. If you still choose to take a photo, always agree on a price first to avoid being extorted into paying outrageous price.

Fake guides

Some people will offer to show you around but demand big tips afterward. Always consult your hotel if you need a guide, and never hire random people on the street — you’ll likely get scammed.

Food Stalls

Some vendors may bring extra dishes you didn’t order and charge you for them. Always double-check your order, your bill, and make sure the menu has prices.

Pickpockets

Jemaa el-Fna is crowded and perfect for pickpockets. Keep your valuables secure and stay aware of your surroundings, especially in busy areas.

A crazy morning spent in Marrakesh

What an adventure! They say “get lost in the souks” — and that’s exactly what we did. Just off the chaos of the main square, you’ll first encounter fruit stalls, street performers, and even snake charmers before reaching the many entrances into the souks. From there, a maze of winding passageways and narrow streets stretches endlessly, lined with traders and stalls selling every kind of Moroccan souvenir or gift you could imagine. Haggling isn’t just accepted — it’s expected, and part of the fun. If one vendor won’t negotiate, another just a few steps away likely will. Top tip: Pin your starting point on Google Maps before you dive in — unless you know the souks well, getting truly lost is almost guaranteed!
